Ferrari Signed Lewis Hamilton by replacing Carlos Sainz who was with their team since Sebastian Vettel’s exit in the 2021 season. Ferrari agreed to leave Sainz earlier than the actual contract. He will test for Williams team once Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is completed. But, they won't see their driver turning up for the testing session as Mercedes doesn't allow him to leave early.

The issue was raised during the Las Vegas GP where the two big teams bosses were present. Fred Vasseur was asked the question and the Italian team boss brought up the issue straight to Mercedes Boss Toto Wolff. Fred Vasseur said, "For me, the best way to send Carlos was to give him the opportunity to do the test with Williams.” A question that followed was, ‘Are you disappointed that you can't run Lewis?’ The Frenchman answered, “No they have a contract.”

Toto Wolff answered, “We have a contractual agreement with sponsors, we have a farewell for Lewis. A lot of activities are planned. He pointed at Fred and said "he and I, we spoke about it shortly and he said ‘I guess that's not gonna work’ and I said ‘Yeah I don't think it's gonna work’ and that was the whole thing, I don't think Fred is particularly sad.”
Another question was asked to Fred about being sad about that and he said, “No but there is a contract you have to respect this, it's not because we are doing something for Carlos that everybody has to do the same.” Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc together in Ferrari was seen as the best ever and strongest team pairing of the 2025 season.
