Sebastian Vettel delivered one last memorable performance at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) during the 2022 United States Grand Prix. In what became an emotional penultimate run for the four-time world champion, Vettel’s seventh-place finish earned him the "Driver of the Day" title, marking a fitting send-off as he nears retirement.

Vettel's race was nothing short of thrilling. From the start, he demonstrated his racing pedigree, surging five places to take P5 amid the chaos of the first lap, which saw Carlos Sainz's early exit after contact with George Russell. Vettel’s strategy was bold, opting for a long first stint, and at one point, he led his 3,500th lap in Formula 1 – a testament to his illustrious career.

However, a slow pit stop proved costly, dropping him down the order. Despite this setback, Vettel fought his way back through the field, engaging in a thrilling duel with Haas driver Kevin Magnussen. Reflecting on the battle, Vettel expressed both satisfaction and nostalgia. "We lost some points because of the slow pit stop, but I had fun at the end," Vettel remarked.

Why was Sebastian Vettel asked to rethink!?

The duel with Kevin Magnussen was a highlight, with the two drivers displaying mutual respect. "I knew Kevin would be tough, but he was fair. He gave me just enough room, and it was good fun," he added, emphasizing the spirit of competition that has defined his career.

Although the race reignited memories of Vettel’s past glories, it did not tempt him to reconsider his retirement plans. When asked if the adrenaline-filled race made him rethink his decision, Vettel firmly stated, "No, not like that."

He acknowledged he would miss the thrill of moments like these, especially at iconic circuits such as Suzuka, but remained focused on the next chapter of his life. "I will miss these moments, the adrenaline, the battles – but I’ve thought about this for a while, and I’m excited for what comes next," Vettel concluded.
