Oliver Bearman is set to make an unexpected early debut for Haas in Formula 1 at the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix, stepping in for the banned Kevin Magnussen. Magnussen's absence from the race comes after a penalty-laden weekend at the Italian Grand Prix, where a clash with Alpine’s Pierre Gasly at the second chicane led to a 10-second time penalty and two penalty points being added to his license.

The Danish driver has now accumulated 12 penalty points over 12 months, triggering an automatic one-race ban, which he will serve at the Baku circuit. This development paves the way for Bearman, a young British talent, to take on the full responsibilities of a race weekend with Haas.

Bearman, who is already confirmed to be joining the team as a full-time driver in 2025, has been serving as Haas’ reserve driver for the current season. Although this will be his first complete race weekend with the team, Bearman is not entirely new to the F1 grid.

Oliver Bearman had made an impressive F1 debut

Earlier this season, Bearman had the opportunity to make his Formula 1 debut in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, filling in for Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz. Despite having only, a single practice session to familiarize himself with the challenging Jeddah Corniche Circuit, the 19-year-old delivered an impressive performance, finishing in seventh place and outpacing experienced drivers like Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton.

Bearman’s inclusion in the Azerbaijan GP will be closely watched. The Baku City Circuit is known for its mix of long straights and technical corners, presenting a significant challenge for any driver, let alone a newcomer. His performance will be crucial not only for his career but also for Haas, as the team looks to secure valuable points in the constructors' championship.

Meanwhile, Kevin Magnussen is expected to return to his seat at the Singapore Grand Prix, rejoining Nico Hulkenberg to complete the remaining seven races of the 2024 season. For Bearman, the Azerbaijan GP represents a golden opportunity to showcase his potential ahead of his full-time promotion to the Haas team.
