Alexander Rossi’s outstanding day was ruined after his car caught fire during a pit stop. Everything ended within seconds, and Rossi escaped within the blink of an eye. His IndyCar had a fluid leak, and Alex Palou, who was chasing him, raised concerns. Rossi was called for a pit stop. As the mechanic changed his tyres and checked his vehicle, suddenly it lit up and caught fire.

Rossi escaped the fire by jumping out of his vehicle. His race was already over, and he was fuming by throwing his gloves. Rossi’s fueler, Mike Miller, was also caught by the flames, and the pit crew saved him with the help of a fire extinguisher. After the incident, Rossi said, “Thankfully, Mike’s ok too. It's always a terrible situation, and it's so disappointing. That was such a phenomenal racecar, and the team made a great decision to stay out there when that first split happened with the strategy, and everything we were doing on the 20 Java house stand was awesome. That’s what’s so painful about this day is you've got to have so many things go right. It’s just disappointing because it’s another opportunity gone.”

One of the biggest reasons the driver pointed out was staying out too long, overheating the gearbox, which went up in flames. Alexander Rossi won only one race in the Indy 500 in his career, which was in 2016. Last year, Rossi finished in P4, and this season, he hoped for a pole finish.
He was leading the race as several crashes put him in an advantageous position. But unfortunately, all his efforts went in vain without him making any mistakes. Alex Palou won the Indy 500 by holding off ex-F1 driver Marcus Ericsson, who finished in second. Palou’s friend and former teammate Lando Norris won the 2025 Formula 1 Monaco GP on the same day. The Indy 500 and Monaco GP are part of the Triple Crown with the 24 Hours of LeMans race.
