Formula 1 driver Oliver Bearman’s first race of his F1 career started with a huge shunt at the Australian Grand Prix Free Practice Session 1. The British driver is on his rookie year and was signed by the Haas F1 team alongside Esteban Ocon last year. Though he already raced a GP, replacing Carlos Sainz at last year’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, this was his first full-time role as an F1 driver.

But it all went in vain as the Englishman crashed his Haas car into the barriers after slipping on the roads in turn 10 after the end of the DRS zone. Ollie was coming hard, turning into turn 9 and immediately into turn 10, lost his grip and went wide into the grass area. His rear wheel slipped and had a big shunt on the wall, damaging his car's front and rear right ends.
This damage was huge as even his rear right tyre separated from his car. His father, watching his son crash in his very first free practice session, was in complete shock. Luckily, Oliver Bearman was unhurt and emerged from the car without any issues. Even last year, Bearman had a big crash at the Mexican Grand Prix as he was gearing up for his lap, and Williams driver Alex Albon crashed straight into him as he didn't expect Bearman going slow on the racing line.
Bearman's FP1 damage was huge, and he will miss out on the FP2 session. Ollie is one of the five rookies competing in Formula 1 this year in a full-time role. The other drivers are Jack Doohan for Alpine, Kimi Antonelli for Mercedes, Gabriel Bortoleto for Kick Sauber and Isack Hadjar for the VCARB team.
The battle between these five rookies will be exciting as they all will race to emerge as the best this year. The second free practice session will be at the end of today’s race, and tomorrow, there will be practice session three and Qualifying. Sunday will be the Australian Grand Prix main race that decides the winner.
