Formula 1 fever is on with the season starting at the 2025 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. The fans are so excited and passionate about Formula 1, as we already saw a huge crowd gathering to watch the 2025 season’s first F1 race. As we all know, Australia is the greatest sporting country in the world, and the people there watch multiple sports and give equal importance to everything.

You can't take away Australia’s favourite game, cricket, even in Formula 1. Each year, when Formula 1 drivers arrive on the continent, they play cricket in promotional events. Last year, we saw Charles Leclerc hit a cricket ball straight into a fan unintentionally and apologise. This year, hometown boy Oscar Piastri was hitting the cricket balls into the crowd, and the fans were so excited to catch the balls.

Oscar hit them intentionally to cheer the fans up and credited Australian Skipper Pat Cummins for helping him improve his batting skills. In a video, there was a huge crowd gathered before him. The Melbourne-born driver started to hit the balls one by one thrown at him to the crowd.  And the crowd were fascinated to catch those balls. He posted the video, thanking Pat Cummins for helping: "Those lessons from @PatCummins30 finally paid off." Another Australian cricketer, Alex Carey, commented on the post saying, "Jeez that @kookabatcave looks good in your hands @oscarpiastri."

Oscar is also the only driver who can win a Formula 1 championship this year as his team, McLaren, is the fastest on the grid. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have brought the F1 2024 constructors' championship back to McLaren after a 26-year wait. They are also the strongest pair on the grid, even stronger than Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc with their stronger package. The 2025 Australian Grand Prix Free Practice Session 1 is complete, and Piastri finished P4 ahead of reigning world champion Max Verstappen and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.

But we expect Oscar Piastri to improve in the upcoming sessions and finish inside the top 3 in qualifying. It has been 25 years since an Aussie driver won the Australian Grand Prix in Formula 1. There were many great drivers like Daniel Ricciardo and Mark Webber, but they couldn't win their home Grand Prix. Let us see whether Oscar Piastri or Jack Doohan can win his home Grand Prix this 2025 season. If it happens, the Aussie crowd will go wild, and the whole city will erupt.
