The two Frenchmen, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, who won the Brazil GP with a 2-3 finish, fulfilled their childhood dream of finishing together on the podiums for Alpine at the Interlagos circuit. Driving at the water-filled Interlagos circuit required some mastery. Ocon and Gasly, along with Max Verstappen at the front, did that to clinch the podium points for Alipne and complete their childhood dream.

This is also the first double podium finish for Renault (Alpine) since they returned to the sport in 2017. The two French men were once childhood friends as they both learned karting together before growing up and entering Formula 1.

Childhood friends to Podium winners

After the race Ocon and Galsy were interviewed by Dutch media and they both answered together in the interview. Esteban asked about their childhood days when they talked about driving in the rain and finishing on the podiums. Ocon asked Gasly “You remember in karting when we were driving in the rain?” Gasly responded “Even in the snow! Same in the days when we were the only ones showing up at the track. But it's all worth it.”

Ocon said that the impact of both of them finishing on the podium only hit him when he crossed the finishing line in the final lap. Ocon said to Gasly “It paid off and tell you when we did that formation, on the in-lap, that was the first thing that came into my mind. What a beautiful story that is.”

Pierre Gasly said “This is a moment of a lifetime. As a kid, from where we came from, to end up as a teammate was against all odds… but to end up on the same podium on a season like this year. Because no one thought we could have put a podium. In the way we did, it is just incredible.”

He added “For our story, nobody knows our story, it is something personal to us. But regardless of everything that happened, on a day like today, it makes it very special and it's a beautiful story.” In recent times Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly’s friendship dimmed due to some on-track incidents, but now the old rifts have healed much quicker than they thought and with the podium finished together it is closing together for them.

Even in the post-race interview, Gasly supported Max verstappen when he took a jibe at the british media. This podium has pole vaulted the Alpine team from the ninth position to sixth in the constructor's championship. They could now earn 50 million dollars extra prize money at the end of the season if they could hold on to the same position in the remaining races.
