The Williams Racing team suffered one of the lowest-ever weekends in their team's history at the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix. It seemed like the best-ever weekend for the Williams team as their drivers Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto showed Torpedo-like pace in the qualifiers. But very soon disaster struck them in qualifying 1 when Colapinto crashed his car straight into the wall. The rain hit the Interlagos circuit in Brazil making the track very slippery and drivers couldn't hold their cars to the ground because of the high waterlog.
A Complete Disaster for Williams Racing Team
Then disaster struck the team twice as Alex Albon crashed in Qualifying 3 after almost finishing up the order. His crash was very big as the team couldn't recover or repair the car before the start of the race. Albon’s car suffered many big damages including the engine, chassis, and pipeline.
But the team principal James Vowels was very confident in bringing Colapinto back to the race. Again Disaster repeated for the Williams team as Colapinto crashed his car in the main straight in the middle of the race bringing Red Flags which halted the race and eventually turned the race results upside down.
Both Franco Colapinto and Alex Albon were ruled out of the race and the Willams Racing team was left stranded in the garage without any points from the Brazilian Grand Prix. Their Rival Alpine ended up getting a double Podium finish for both their drivers which rubbed salt in their wounds.
In the coming weeks, Williams mechanics will have to work double the shift to repair both their cars before the next event in Las Vegas. Williams team boss James Vowels spoke to the press after the disastrous weekend and he said “The Nature of Formula 1 is that you can have some of the most incredible feelings and results as well as Lowest moments that you can feel.” Vowels added that the 2024 Brazil weekend was the lowest moment for them having two big crashes and they have a tremendous amount of work to get back on top before the next race in Las Vegas. The Williams boss feels very hurt after a painful weekend for the team.
Williams was battling eight in the constructors championship with Alpine and before the Brazil race, they came with a one-point lead. But after Ocon and Gasly finished second and third place, Alpine is now 32 points ahead of Williams's team. RB team is now 27 points ahead of Williams in the Eighth place. Only the Kick Sauber team is behind the Williams team without scoring any points.
