The 2024 Spanish Grand Prix delivered not only thrilling on-track action but also a moment of light-hearted banter between Formula 1 titans Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. This playful exchange added a dash of humour to the intense racing atmosphere, highlighting the camaraderie and competitive spirit between the two drivers.

After a commanding win in Barcelona, Max Verstappen couldn’t resist a cheeky jab at his rival, Lewis Hamilton, who had just secured his first podium of the season. As Hamilton settled down in the press conference area, waiting for the other drivers, he decided to take a brief nap. Wearing sunglasses and playing a classic Bob Marley tune on his phone, Hamilton announced, “I’m going to take a nap.”

Here is the video:

This laid-back moment was interrupted by Verstappen, who walked in and seized the opportunity for some good-natured teasing. "He’s getting old. Do you need a massage?" quipped the 26-year-old Dutchman, drawing laughs from those present. Verstappen’s comment was a playful nod to Hamilton’s status as one of the older drivers on the grid, as the seven-time world champion approaches his 40s.

“This is the best weekend I’ve had all year”, says Lewis Hamilton

Hamilton, known for his resilience and sense of humour, took the joke in stride. Despite Verstappen’s tease, Hamilton's performance in the race was nothing short of remarkable. Holding off his Mercedes teammate George Russell and securing a solid P3 finish, Hamilton showcased that age is just a number and that he remains a formidable force in Formula 1.

“I feel great, I feel fantastic, I’ve got plenty of energy,” said Hamilton after the race. “After a bad start, to recover and get back into P3 is a great job. I’m really happy – particularly my second and last stints were very, very strong.”

“And I think the first one, I was just recovering from such a bad start, so that was a bit trickier. But we’re getting there, we’re getting closer, and a big, big thank you to the team because we’re slowly closing the gap.”

“This is the best weekend I’ve had all year,” he added, “and for a long, long time, for like 15 races or something crazy. It’s good to be back, it’s good to have battles like today, it’s good to reassert and reaffirm.”
