The 2024 Spanish Grand Prix delivered a thrilling spectacle, culminating in a memorable champagne celebration on the podium. Race winner Max Verstappen and second-place finisher Lando Norris were joined by Lewis Hamilton, who secured his first podium of the season by finishing third.

The podium celebration was a highlight of the day. As Verstappen and Norris sprayed champagne, they made sure to drench Hamilton, adding an extra layer of festivity to his long-awaited podium finish. The celebration was especially poignant given Hamilton's personal decision to abstain from alcohol, a revelation he made last December due to past alcohol-related issues. Despite this, Hamilton joined in the joyous moment, demonstrating his camaraderie and sportsmanship.

The celebration was particularly joyous as Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, had been eagerly awaiting a return to the podium. Starting the race from P4, Hamilton demonstrated his veteran skills and strategic acumen to secure P3, crediting Mercedes' flawless strategy and quick pitstops for his success.

"It has been a good day, a solid weekend. I have to say a big thank you to the team as they have been training so hard. The strategy and the pitstops were really on point," Hamilton remarked in his post-race interview.

The race was held in Spain, the tenth race of the season, with both Mercedes cars showing promising performance. Hamilton and his teammate George Russell qualified in P4 and P3, respectively. Despite their strong starting positions, they couldn’t overcome the dominance of Verstappen and Norris, who maintained their leads throughout the race.

Hamilton's race was not without its challenges. A pitstop on Lap 17 dropped him to P9, but he quickly regained ground, overtaking Carlos Sainz using the DRS to climb back to P6. His climb continued, eventually securing him a coveted spot on the podium.

Reflecting on his race, Hamilton acknowledged the importance of a strong start, which he unfortunately did not achieve, losing positions to Russell and the Ferrari drivers. "Unfortunately, I got a really bad start and lost ground to the Ferraris so it was a battle to get back," he said. "With a better start... I don't know if we could have held on to the guys ahead but I don't think we would have been as far behind."
