Mercedes AMG team has posted a video about the team's favorite racing hero. Every motorsport fan will have a racing hero in their life when they are growing up. It applies even to racing drivers and teams. Mercedes team has asked their team and drivers about their racing hero. Each one responds with a different name and finally, George Russell's hero came as a surprise to everyone.
Hamilton's Hero no surprise, But George's?
Let's start with the 7 time world champion Lewis Hamilton who is leaving Mercedes next year. Lewis Hamilton has been a great fan of the Late Brazilian legend Ayrton Senna since he was karting. Hamilton also claims Ayrton Senna as the greatest driver ever in Formula 1.
Lewis Hamilton was even gifted with an Ayrton Senna used helmet by his family at the Brazilian GP which is Ayrton Senna’s home country. Lewis even tried one of Senna’s cars and lapped around the circuit. Senna is a three-time Formula 1 world champion. He died at the Emilia Romagna circuit, in Italy after a crash during the race.
George Russel's hero came as a surprise to everyone as the British driver's racing hero was his teammate Lewis Hamilton. Lewis was a Formula 1 racer when George was a young Karting driver. George grew up watching Lewis winning races and championships. He is the teammate of his racing hero.
Kimi Antonelli who is the replacement for Lewis Hamilton next year at Mercedes also said Ayrton Senna is his racing hero. Kimi Antonelli was not even born (born in 2006) when Senna was racing, unlike Lewis Hamilton. Senna is still an inspiration beyond sport and he will be remembered forever. Along with Lewis, George and Kimi Antonelli the racer's many other crew members said names like Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, and Nigel Mansell as their racing heroes.
