Mercedes boss Toto Wolff broke down after their Abu Dhabi Grand Prix qualifying session. The results were not expected from them, as they came with great confidence and performance after the last few races. The session was tough for both George and Lewis Hamilton.
Especially for Lewis, it is his final qualifying session with the Mercedes team. In his decade-long partnership with the team, he did many great qualifying laps with the support of the team and secured podiums. But in Abu Dhabi, he was knocked out of Q3 due to a huge mistake by the team, and his boss admitted that in a press conference.
The team sent Lewis for qualifying very late when everyone had already done their qualifying. Lewis Hamilton had to tackle traffic on the track with a limited time. He again became unlucky during his hot lap when Kevin Magnussen mistakenly touched a bollard that went under Lewis’s Mercedes car and spoiled his pace.

Everything went against him, and he got knocked out of the first qualifying session with P16 and is waiting for the main race to happen. The Mercedes boss was not happy with the way the team operated yesterday. He spoke to the media and admitted that his team's mistake cost Hamilton his top 10.

He said, “Our most valuable racing driver ever, the most valuable greatest driver of this sport, gets out in Q1 because we make a mistake. I just need to apologize to Lewis. Also to everyone in the team that worked so hard in making it a great end for him. He was the quicker guy with the setup we chose on the car to experiment with next year. We totally let him down.”

The Austrian was angry about their strategy of sending Hamilton too late in the session. He added, "Idiotc mistake of not going earlier. Inexcusable, inexcusable. I’ve rarely been so down about what has happened. We easily had the pace to make it out there.” He concluded by saying, “Our most valuable racing driver ever, the most valuable greatest driver of this sport, gets out in Q1 because we make a mistake. It doesn't ruin the legacy we had with him, but I can only say sorry to him.”
