The opening lap of the 2024 Mexican Grand prix saw yet another big crash just like last year. This time it was VCARB teams Yuki Tsunoda and Williams F1 team Alex Albon crashing on the main DRS straight and going off the track. It shows a fresh new driver's point of view of the incident that happened during the race. We can see both the drivers side by side and justify who is guilty of causing the big crash. It's not about the crash it's about the carnage this opening crash would have done to many other drivers at the front.

Advertisment

George Russell of Mercedes missed the flying car of VCARB's Yuki Tsunoda by a few meters or else we would have seen even more cars involved in the crash. The biggest reason for this crash is the drivers being too aggressive at the start of the race.

A fresh new perspective on the incident

The video shows both Yuki Tsunoda and Alex Albon having a very nice start to their race but Yuki Tsunoda seems to have more pace in his car than Alex Albon so he passed the Williams driver. Albon on the other hand saw both Yuki Tsunoda and Pierre Gasly on each side having nowhere to go and was squeezed into the corner. Yuki Tsunoda touched Albons front left tyre which damaged his rear tyre and was thrown out of the track

The Williams driver had suspension damage and was forced to stop on the sides of the track. The reason for this crash is both drivers being aggressive to overtake each other forgetting the cars around them and the area which they use for overtaking. The Mexico circuit is a very narrow circuit having very high-speed corners like Monza. So drivers need to be more careful before taking any action. Here we see a lack of responsibility as many drivers think only about overtaking each other.

Tsunoda on his way out of the track crashed on the wall very near to the race camera and would have easily taken out 2 cars, especially Mercedes driver George Russell. The Mercedes driver was very lucky that he was away during Tsunoda’s passing that opening corner.

The two drivers crashing at the Mexican Grand prix is not new as both the drivers suffered crashes during Practice sessions and Qualifying. After the crash safety car was deployed and it took around 5 laps to clear out the debris before starting the race again.
