Mexican GP Race results: The smooth operator Carlos Sainz Triumphs in Mexico, Norris edges out Leclerc for second

Carlos Sainz got his first win of this year in Mexico which will be his third-ever grand prix victory in Formula 1. He will be leaving Ferrari next year.

The 2024 Mexican Grand prix is over with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz pulling off a brave win after the opening lap slump against Max Verstappen. McLaren’s Lando Norris finished second ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc helping himself to get near Max Verstappen in the Drivers' points table.

This is the 3rd ever race win for the Smooth operator in his Formula 1 career though he finished in multiple podiums for Ferrari. Sainz will be the first Spanish-speaking driver to win a race in Mexico City. Next year he will be leaving Ferrari to allow Hamilton take his place.

Ferrari’s 1 and 3 finish has now helped the Italian team to push Red Bull to third place in the constructor's title. Now it is a battle between Ferrari and McLaren for this year's constructors championship after two years of domination by Red Bull.

The reigning world champion Max Verstappen finished sixth after serving a double penalty for pushing Lando Norris off the track and also exceeding track limits. After dominating the Mexican Grand prix for so many years Max Verstappen has just finished off the podium.

Mercedes Drivers Lewis Hamilton after having a long battle with his teammate Geroge Russell finished fourth and the latter at fifth place. Haas driver Kevin Magnussen had a good weekend he finished seventh ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Nico Hulkenberg who finished eighth and ninth place. The tenth position was taken by Alpine’s Pierre Gasly.

Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll finished 11th followed by Williams driver Franco Colapinto and Alpine’s Esteban Ocon. The two Kick Sauber drivers Bottas and Zhou Guanyu finished 14 and 15 ahead of Liam Lawson who had front wing damage during his race against Colapinto in the late sessions.

The hometown hero had another disappointing year in Mexico and this time despite a good start was given a penalty for starting ahead of the line during the race start. He also got his car floor damaged during his race with Liam Lawson which pushed him further back to 17th place on the grid. Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin who started his 400th race had a disappointing end to it as he retired early due to issues in his car. Alex Albon and Yuki Tsunoda crashed on the opening lap and they didn't finish the race.
