As the Dutch Grand Prix 2024 approaches, Daniel Ricciardo has made a poignant gesture by saluting Turn 3, the site of his painful accident from the previous season. During a turbulent and rain-affected FP1 session at Zandvoort, Ricciardo took a moment to acknowledge the corner where he suffered a significant injury last year.

The Australian driver, who joined the RB team this season, suffered a broken left hand at Turn 3 during the second practice in 2023. The injury, sustained while trying to avoid the McLaren of Oscar Piastri, led to Ricciardo missing the remainder of the Dutch GP and the subsequent four races. Liam Lawson filled in for him during this period, stepping in for Ricciardo at AlphaTauri.

What did Ricciardo say about the incident?

Despite the challenging memories associated with Turn 3, Daniel Ricciardo has chosen to approach this year's race with a positive mindset. The 35-year-old admitted he has reflected on the accident but is determined not to let it overshadow his performance this weekend.

Speaking to RacingNews365, Ricciardo shared, "I've thought about it. I'm not going to shy away from that. But I'll get in the car, I'll salute Turn 3, give it a little hello and crack on." Ricciardo’s approach highlights his resilience and focus as he prepares for the Dutch GP.

He further added, "I was in the sim a few days ago, and honestly, even just that, driving around, I was like: 'Alright.' I felt better. So, I'm not going to overplay it, like it's some demons and I'm just: 'Oh my gosh, I'm scared to drive here'. Not at all. But I'll acknowledge it, and then crack on."
