Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc provided a heart-stopping moment during the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying session as he narrowly avoided a collision while exiting the Ferrari garage. The Monegasque driver, known for his precision and skill, showcased his remarkable car control by leaving the garage with millimetres to spare from the walls.

Despite the dramatic exit, the qualifying session did not unfold as Leclerc and his team had hoped. The Ferrari SF-24, which has been struggling to keep pace with the formidable McLaren and Red Bull teams, once again fell short in performance.

Leclerc managed to secure the sixth position at the end of Saturday’s qualifying session, finishing two spots behind his teammate Carlos Sainz. The gap to the pole sitter, Lando Norris, was a significant 0.678 seconds, underscoring Ferrari's challenges this season.

“We are just lacking some pace”, says Charles Leclerc

Reflecting on his performance, Leclerc candidly admitted that he did not deliver a perfect lap in Q3. He acknowledged a mistake in the last corner that cost him a few hundredths of a second, potentially the difference between his sixth-place finish and a higher position. However, he emphasized that the main issue was not his driving but the overall lack of pace from the car.

"The picture was very similar to what we expected yesterday. And yeah, we are just lacking some pace at the moment,” Leclerc stated. He noted that the best possible result for Ferrari would have been a P4 or P5 finish, indicating that both drivers were performing close to the car’s potential but were still outpaced by their rivals.

“I think the best result for the team could have been P4-P5. I didn’t do the lap of my life and in the last corner, I lost a few hundredths which cost me the P5. But apart from that, there wasn’t much more on the table. So, we’ve got to work because it’s clear that we are lacking some pace against McLaren and the Red Bull. And we are pretty similar with Mercedes”, he told the media.
