British Grand Prix: Mercedes duo George Russell and Lewis Hamilton qualifies fastest, Norris and Verstappen fails in Q3

George Russell secured pole position for the British Grand Prix, leading a Mercedes one-two at Silverstone. Toto Wolff expressed delight as Hamilton initially clinched the pole, only to be outpaced by Russell by 0.171 seconds moments later. 

Lando Norris completed an all-British top-three by qualifying third in his McLaren. The remaining top ten positions were: Max Verstappen in fourth, followed by Oscar Piastri, Nico Hulkenberg, Carlos Sainz, Lance Stroll, Alexander Albon, and Fernando Alonso. Verstappen’s qualifying session was marred by a mistake at the loop on his final lap.

Sergio Perez crashes out of Q1 again!

The Q1 session ended dramatically as Sergio Pérez's crash brought out the red flag. Pierre Gasly was a notable casualty, finishing in P20, marking a double elimination for Alpine with Esteban Ocon also out. The bottom five and out in Q1 were Valtteri Bottas, Kevin Magnussen, Ocon, Pérez, and Gasly. Lando Norris had a tense moment, ending P13 after pitting early. The top three were Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and Charles Leclerc. It was an entertaining session, with unexpected eliminations and high drama.

Charles Leclerc bows out of Q2!

In a surprising turn of events during Q2, Charles Leclerc found himself out of the top ten, finishing in 11th place, missing the cut by just 0.159 seconds to Lance Stroll. This marks another disappointing performance for Ferrari. The bottom five drivers who failed to advance to Q3 were Leclerc, Logan Sargeant, Yuki Tsunoda, Guanyu Zhou, and Daniel Ricciardo. Meanwhile, commendations are for Alex Albon and Nico Hulkenberg, who managed to secure their spots in Q3, showcasing impressive drives.
