Top 10 Nerve-wracking crashes of the 2024 F1 season: Absolute carnage on the track

The Formula 1 2024 season had 35 crashes in total and Sergio Perez was the biggest culprit, and he cost some million Euros to the Red Bull team.

The 2024 Formula 1 season was tough for many drivers and teams due to big crashes leading to heavy financial crises. There are a total of 35 crashes that happened across all races. Fortunately, we didn't see any crashes on the Singapore track which is known for damaging cars big time.

Sergio Perez is the most affected driver costing his team 4.93 million euros in repair costs. Williams is the team that was affected the most due to crashes with a repair cost of 13.8 million euros. Let's take a look at the top horrifying individual crashes by drivers in the 2024 Formula 1 season.

10. Monaco GP opening lap

The Opening lap of the Monaco GP started with a disaster as Kevin Magnussen, Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg as they were involved in a huge crash damaging Perez’s car very heavily. Magnussen had a good start and he tried to overtake Perez slammed on the rear and both went crashing in that narrow track leaving no room for Hulkenberg and all three were out of the race.

9. Alex Albon -Mexico GP

Williams is the team that is most affected by crashes and one of those crashes happened during the Mexico GP practice session. Albon was running his out lap and Ollie Bearman was testing the Ferrari car of Charles Leclerc for the first time.

Alex Albon didn't see Bearman’s Ferrari on the exit of the corner collided with his front wing while trying to negotiate and went straight into the barriers. It was a very big crash as he missed the entire Practice session and went straight to the qualifying. He also had another collision during the main race with Yuki Tsunoda.

8. Carlos Sainz - Singapore GP Qualifying

The 2023 Singapore GP winner Carlos Sainz had a disastrous weekend at the Yas Marina circuit this year. He was ready for the final qualifying session and was on his warmup lap. While starting to pick up pace on the final corner he lost his rear and collided big on the walls throwing himself out of the session. 

7. Perez and Sainz crash the Azerbaijan GP

The Mexican driver's miserable 2024 season started at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Sergio Perez was chasing Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and during that time his car's front tyre got locked with Sainz's rear and both ended in the barriers.

6. Fernando Alonso - Brazil GP Qualifying

Formula 1’s most experienced driver Fernando Alonso was part of the list due to his crash during the Brazil GP Qualifying was very big to neglect. He was always good in wet conditions but his car, who had a new floor setup couldn't hold him on the track as he spun and collided heavily with the barriers.

5. Lance Stroll - Brazil GP Qualifying

Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll had a similar kind of crash as his teammate Fernando Alonso in the same race. In the second qualifying session, he too spun without any grip on his tyres and collided big on the barriers.

4. Alex Albon - Brazil Qualifying

The Williams driver had one more horrific crash at the Brazilian Grand prix. The Interlagos circuit was soaked in rain and many couldnt hold their cars on the track. Alex Albon was running well on the main straight when his brakes failed causing him to crash on the concrete barriers that tore his car into pieces.

3. Franco Colapinto - Brazil GP main race

In the main race of the Brazilian Grand prix, Franco Colapinto was the only driver driving for Williams as his teammate's car couldn't get repaired on time. But he added more frustration to the Williams camp after he crashed his car into the barriers on the main straight bringing the safety car which changed the course of the race.

2. Logan Sargeant - Japanese GP

The ex-Williams driver did his part which cost the team a big crash at the Japanese Grand prix in the Suzuka circuit. During the FP1 session, Logan was on a hot lap, suddenly lost his rear and crashed straight to the walls at a great speed.

1. Franco Colapinto - Las Vegas GP

At the 2024 Las Vegas GP qualifying session, Franco Colapinto crashed his car again into the wall by miscalculating the S corner at turn 16. He collided with his left front wheel and was pushed to the other side of the track at an impact of over 50G. It was one of the biggest impacts but luckily Colapinto survived and passed all the medical tests.
