It took 26 years for the iconic McLaren F1 team to reclaim the constructors championship in Formula 1. Their last glorious achievement was in 1998 when Mika Hakkinenn and David Coulthard won both drivers and constructors championships.
Even big names like Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, and Kimi Raikkonen couldn't win the constructors title for them. The two young driver pair Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri gave them their long-awaited F1 title. So, what is the reason for their glory and can this be the dawn of a new era of McLaren’s dominance?
F1 2024 season’s best team
McLaren is the best team in this year's Formula 1. All credits go to the team boss Zak Brown and Team principal Andrea Stella. Zak did all he could to get the money and resources to keep the team moving forward. Team Principal Stella was behind McLaren's outstanding pace, consistency and corner stability.
Red Bulls were always known for their Aerodynamic designs but this year McLaren overtook them in terms of Aerodynamics. If they had shown their dominance a little earlier, they could have also won the driver's title.
Surprise comeback
After Red Bull’s dominant first half, McLaren surprised all of us during the Miami Grand Prix. Lando Norris won his first race in F1 starting from sixth. Oscar Piastri, Lando’s teammate was the fastest driver of that day. The McLaren machine took off from this race and never looked back as they dominated the rest of the season against Max Verstappen and Ferrari.
In 2024 McLaren has achieved 21 podium finishes, 8 fastest laps, 6 race wins and 666 points. The solid and dominant performance left other rivals like Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari scratching their heads and confused.
Best driver pair of 2024
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are the best driver pair of the 2024 F1 season. They weren't even born when McLaren last lifted their trophy in the 1998 season. The two young drivers showed great consistency and speed to dominate other drivers on the grid.
Australia and the UK are the greatest rivals in cricket. But in Formula 1 they teamed up and showed the world what would happen if the Aussies and Brits united as a team. The Brit won four races for McLaren and finished second in the driver's championship with 374 points, while the Aussie won two races and finished fourth with 292 points.
Dawn of a new era for McLaren
Their two drivers Oscar and Lando are very young and hungry for victory. Having, the best car on the grid McLaren could develop an even more dominant machine next year. Lando Norris is very confident of winning the driver's title in 2025 and with Oscar Piastri as his teammate, they are the team to beat for the rivals. If everything works well for them then McLaren could again dominate F1 like the 80s, 90s, and 2000s era.
