Top 10 driver collisions in the 2024 Formula 1 season: WATCH - Drivers ruining each other's race

Formula 1 fans witnessed many crashes this year as some F1 drivers had many big accidents. Sergio Perez and the Williams drivers had the most incidents.

In 2024, we saw many collisions and incidents between Formula 1 drivers ruining each other's races. Though such incidents are unavoidable during racing, some collisions are big as teams lose their race positions and spend millions of dollars to repair the damage. Let us see some of the biggest driver collisions this year.

Top 10 Biggest Driver Collisions

10. George Russell and Fernando Alonso (Australia GP)

The British driver had the biggest accident this year while tailing Fernando Alonso. He was chasing Alonso, and suddenly the Spaniard slowed down in the corner forcing Russell to avoid his rear, move to the left lose control of his car and crash straight into the wall. 

The scary thing happened afterwards when the Mercedes driver was pushed back to the middle of the track and his car stopped in an inclined position. George couldn't see the race track and cried "Red Flag, Red Flag" in desperation. Aston Martin's Lance Stroll and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg were chasing him at high speed. The Canadian driver's race engineer shouted over the radio informing him about the accident, avoiding a major disaster.

9.Max Verstappen and Lando Norris (Austrian GP)

The Dutch fans in Austria queued up in the stands of the Red Bull ring, only to see the incident between Max verstappen and Lando Norris in lap 64 of the Austrian Grand Prix. The McLaren driver had the fastest car and tried to pass the Dutchman for several laps where he was given no room.

At one point Lando Norris lost his cool and tried to pass Max on Lap 64 in turn 3 and the two drivers collided. Both drivers had punctures and were forced to return to the pits. Verstappen served a 10-second time penalty and rejoined the race, while Lando couldn't continue after the incident and blamed the Red Bull driver for ruining his race completely.

8. Sergio Perez and Liam Lawson (Mexico GP)

This year's Mexico GP is the first time we saw a driver humiliating perez in front of his home fans. Last year Leclerc was booed for colliding with Perez on the opening lap. In 2024 Perez was again humiliated, but this time by his sister team driver Liam Lawson. The New Zealander charged at the struggling Red Bull driver and in doing that he damaged his floor and ruined his race. He also did one infamous thing where he showed his middle finger while passing Sergio for which he apologised later after the race.

7. Ocon, Colapinto, Hulkenberg (Qatar GP)

On the opening lap of the Qatar Grand prix, Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg's small mistake cost two other drivers. On the first corner, the German driver had a wheel lockup and collided with Esteban Ocon causing a chain reaction and the Frenchman took out Williams driver Franco Colapinto. 

6. Max verstappen and Lewis Hamilton (Hungary GP)

In the Hungarian Grand prix, McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri dominated Max verstappen. The Dutch driver was frustrated and was fighting for P3 against his old rival Lewis Hamilton. Max was charging at Lewis and when trying to overtake the British driver in a corner he locked his wheel and touched Hamilton’s wheel. Due to that, the Red Bull car lifted in the air and Max was out of the track. Verstappen complained over the radio and his team didn't approve his notion called it childish and left it for the race stewards to decide about the incident.

5. Bottas vs Magnussen (Abu Dhabi Grand prix)

The 2024 season's final race in Abu dhabi was the last race of Valtteri Bottas with Sauber and Kevin Magnussen with Haas. So both drivers are desperate to score points. Magnussen wanted to help his team Haas get the 6th place and Bottas was running to score his first-ever points. But it all went in vain as Magnussen passed Bottas on the straights and went for the corner the Finnish driver got a wheel lockup and crashed sideways into Magnussen's car. It ruined the Danish driver's final Formula 1 race and Bottas also retired after getting his tyres punctured. 

4. Alex Albon and Yuki Tsunoda (Mexico GP)


At the start of the 2024 Mexican Grand prix, VCARB driver Yuki Tsunoda tried to overtake Alex Albon. But the Williams driver had no room on each side and touched the Japanese driver's rear tyre throwing him out on the first corner. Yuki Missed the cameraman on the track by an inch during the accident that was very scary.

3. Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri (Abu Dhabi GP)

On the opening lap of the Abu Dhabi Grand prix Max verstappen divebombed into the first corner colliding with Oscar Piastri who was running P2, ruining his race. Max had a good start and passed Carlos Sainz. When he approached the corner at a high speed he got a little understeer, crashing into the McLaren driver and spun. He was given a 10-second penalty for that move, which he later served during the race.

2. Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez (Azerbaijan GP)

The two spanish speaking drivers battled for the position during the Azerbaijan Grand prix. During the race, the Mexican driver tried to overtake the Spaniard and their cars got tangled and both crashed heavily into the barriers that ended their race. Both drivers blamed each other for the incident.

1. Sergio Perez and Kevin Magnussen (Monaco GP)

The biggest crash of this year's Formula 1 season was the scary crash of Perez and Magnussen during the opening lap of the Monaco Grand prix. Sergio Perez and Kevin Magnussen had a great start and tried to pass each other on the straights after the first corner.

But doing so Magnussen's front wheel got tangled with the Red Bull car's rear side and Perez crashed heavily into the concrete walls. Their crash also ruined Nico Hulkenberg's race who tried to pass both the drivers. The accident was so big even the spectators near the crash were sprayed with dust and broken car pieces and the track was in complete carnage.
