After losing the constructors championship to McLaren this year, Former champions Red Bull are ready with a new plan to tackle their rivals next season. The Red Bull car had the maximum downforce which helped them in the corners.
They lacked balance, which made their car vulnerable and sensitive, especially in circuits like COTA, Las Vegas, and Singapore, where the track layout has many twists and turns. So, the Milton Keynes squad has devised a new plan for their RB 21 car, which will debut next year.
The strategy is to improve the car's balance rather than eyeing for maximum downforce. This comes after McLaren completely wiped out their early advantage in the 2024 season after the Miami Grand prix. Max Verstappen was the only driver carrying the team on his shoulders while Sergio Perez struggled with balance issues.
Red Bull wants change
The team boss Helmut Marko has said “We know what to do. This car needs a wider working window so that it doesnt immediately become unbalanced when there are slight temperature fluctuations or minor technical changes.”
He also spoke about the importance of the cars handling the same as the car's downforce. Marko added “That’s exactly what our engineers are working on. Forty points of downforce is good, but four-tenths on the stopwatch is what interests me and the drivers. The handling must be predictable for the driver so that he can build up the necessary confidence.”
Helmut also predicted the 2025 F1 season to be a close battle as it is the last year of the current regulation period. He also talked about losing key members of the team like Adrian Newey who will be working for Aston Martin from next season.
He said “There will be some changes in the team, as there have been some departures. But we are well positioned and I believe that our team is capable of giving Max a car that will enable him to fight for the world championship again.” Red Bull is planning to announce the driver's lineup before this year's Christmas and many speculations have emerged that the Mexican driver will not be part of the team.
