2025 Motogp Grand Prix of France Race Summary

Pre-race drama

Rain interrupted the Le Mans GP, and riders and teams are confused about which tyres to use. The organisers have announced that the race will be a wet race, and many riders chose slicks. The riders who changed tyres after the first warm-up lap were given a lap penalty. Race winner Johann Zarco narrowly missed getting hit by Bagnaia and Mir during their opening lap crash.

Race Start

The race start was absolute mayhem as Francesco Bagnaia crashed with Honda’s Joan Mir. Fabio Quartararo overcame Marc Marquez's threat, who was struggling with his slick tyres. The Ducati's were clearly struggling with the wet conditions as the Yamaha rider extended his lead over them.

Heartbreak for home fans

In lap 4, Fabio Quartararo crashed when cutting the corners, and the Frenchman’s race was over. The rain got more intense, and all the riders who were using Slicks changed their tyres to wets.  Fabio’s dream of winning the home race was shattered, and the Frenchman walked back to his garage with disappointment.

Zarco on the lead

As the teams were changing their tyres, LCR Honda rider and the Frenchman Johann Zarco ran on the wets from the start. It gave him the chance to lead the race, and the French crowd were overjoyed to see their home country rider lead the French Grand prix. Zarco kept it steady and was extending the lead lap by lap.

Zarco wins the French Grand Prix

At last, Johann Xarco was the Frenchman who won the race since 1951 Motogp French Grand Prix. The French fans went crazy as they got what they came for. The iconic Le Mans was occupied by more than 3 lakh fans, and all of them shouted Zarco's name as the sky was pouring. This is the first ever time in 71 years a Frenchman has won the Motogp at Le Mans. He will be the Factory Honda rider from next year. At last, the French flag flew high on their home soil and in the greatest race track ever built at Le Mans.

Race Highlights & Key Moments

The biggest highlight of the race was Fabio Quartararo’s crash when he had a great chance of winning the race. He crashed on lap 4 behind Marc Marquez, and he couldn’t continue the race. Another big thing was Johann Zarco leading his home race in an LCR Honda.

After Zarco won the race, his father and mother, who were sitting inside the LCR garage, cried in joy and became emotional. More than 3 lakh French fans shouted Zarco's name, and the sky blew. Zarco also did his iconic backflip celebration with tears in his eyes.

Team strategy: Motogp teams kept two bikes, one with wet tyres and another one with normal slicks.

Crashes, Penalties or retirements: On the first lap, Francesco Bagnaia crashed along with Brad Binder. Then, race leader Fabio Quartararo crashed alongside Bastianini. Jack Miller crashed due to the severe wet conditions. More than 5 riders retired from the race as predicted by Sports info.

Weather impact: The conditions were slippery as the race happened in wet conditions, and racing in rain is the hardest job on the planet.
