The Moto2 world championship which is the mid-weight category in premier-class bike racing held at the Phillip Islands in Australia. F. Aldeguer won the race followed by fellow countryman A. Canet and home hero Agius Senna who had his first-ever championship podium. The Spanish rider is back to winning ways after a long time since the German Grand Prix. The Spanish duo Alonso Lopez and Aldeguer started the front. But Aron Canet got a better start starting second from the grid.

Tight battle for the top
He lead the race keeping Aldeguer behind him. The battle for the top three continued between Lopez, Canet and Aldegeur for the first few laps of the race. The championship leader Ogura was chasing from the back but he was constantly under pressure from the Home hero Senna Agius.

At the same time, Aldeguer took the lead and went on extending the gap between him and the Canet/Lopez duo. But constant pressure made Alonso Lopez lose concentration and crash out of the race which promoted Agius to the podium. Canet and Aldeguer both engaged in battle for the top spot but finally, Aldeguer took his chance and went for the victory in the Australian Grand Prix. Canet finished second while the home crowd-backed Senna got his first-ever championship podium.

Championship leader Ogura narrowly missed becoming fifth but ended fourth ahead of Diogp Moreira. If he wins in Thailand then he will win this year's championship title. Gonzalez recovered from his long penalty and ended sixth ahead of Barry Baltus who finished seventh.
Tony Arbolino was eighth in the race, Sergio Garcia was ninth and Marcos Ramirez was tenth. Jeremy Alcoba was eleventh ahead of Darryn Binder and Albert Arenas who finished 12th and 13th. The final two places on the points table are occupied by Filip Salac and Mario Aji who finished 14th and 15th. The battle for the championship will next head to Thailand in seven days.
