A Formula 1 driver capable of driving a car at speeds up to 380 KMPH has just now passed his driving test and received a license. Mercedes F1 driver Kimi Antonelli is the one who just passed his driving test and got his licence. How a driver without a driving license can drive a race car?
Yes, people can drive an F1 car without DL, but they need a super license. Kimi has been karting since childhood, so he does have a license to drive a race car. But he has to wait till 18 to get his official driving licence issued by the government. The Mercedes F1 team posted “Mission completed” on their Instagram account with ticks for Super License and Driving License. Kimi is giving a thumbs up while sitting in a driving school's car. According to Italian law, the minimum age to get a driving license is 18 years.

Even though he had expertise in driving race cars, Antonelli waited for 18 years to get his actual driving license. The same thing happened to Max Verstappen when he debuted in F1 at 17. The Italian will be filling up the big shoes of Lewis Hamilton, who has won 105 races and 7 world titles.
Kimi will also be the youngest driver on the grid and will have his rookie season in 2025 alongside Gabriel Bortoleto, Isack Hadjar, Oliver Bearman, and Jack Doohan. He tested George Russell’s Mercedes car during the 2024 Italian Grand Prix in Monza. But at the Parabolica corner, he crashed heavily, leaving the car in ruins.
This year Kimi Antonelli will be the teammate of George Russell and the Brit will be the team leader, guiding the young Italian into his rookie season. Lewis Hamilton has been the face of Mercedes for the last decade and now young drivers will occupy the Mercedes garage for the first time. Kimi Antonelli will drive his Mercedes car at the pre-season testing event in Bahrain.
