For the first time, Red Bull will be racing in Formula 1 without the help of Adrian Newey. The F1 design guru has been part of the team since 2006 and played a key role in all their championship wins until the 2024 season. In the middle of the 2024 season, Newey shockingly announced that he would depart from the team and join Aston Martin in 2025. After the sexual scandal over Team principal Christian Horner, many key members of the team left the team and that is a worrying sign for them.
Max Verstappen's father worried
The world champion Max Verstappen’s father, Jos Verstappen, is worried about the situation inside the team and thinks things could fall apart in 2025. McLaren emerged out of nowhere last year and started dominating the grid and Lando Norris was on the verge of becoming world champion. If it's not Max Verstappen, then Red Bull would have definitely lost their driver's title.
Red Bull cars lost their balance and pace while trying to upgrade the car and slipped behind McLaren and Ferrari as the third fastest cars. Jos Verstappen feels it will be even tougher for Red Bull to help Verstappen in 2025 because there is no Adrian Newey. Sr. Verstappen said, “I’m a little doubtful. Red Bull just hasn't managed to make the car consistently fast, so why should that be the case this year?”

He was also asked about Red Bull’s struggle with pace because of Newey’s absence and Jos replied, “I think so. As for Newey, it is a fact that the car did not improve when he left the team. In particular, the updates no longer work as intended. I have talked enough about the reasons why the team is in danger of falling apart. Let's leave it at that. One thing is certain: Red Bull has a big task ahead of it in 2025.” Max Verstappen has a contract with Red Bull till 2028 but some clauses allow him to leave the team before his contract ends.
The former F1 driver also spoke about the possibility of his son leaving Red Bull. He added, “Anything is possible. He can stay at Red Bull if he sees the point in it. His goal is still to be able to win races. If he feels that this is no longer possible at Red Bull, a change is not out of the question.”
