McLaren Team came under a lot of fire from its rivals raising their issues about its flexing rear wing in these straights. In the straights, McLaren's rear wing is seen slightly opened without using DRS. The rear wing is so much flexing as it was noted in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after Oscar Piastri’s rear onboard camera recorded the race between Oscar and Charles Leclerc. Fans Called it a ‘Mini DRS’ as even without opening DRS Oscar comfortably gets top speed and Downforce.

After the race, multiple videos of McLaren’s Flexi rear wing emerged on social media. Many wanted the FIA to take action regarding the mini DRS issue. FIA has then asked McLaren to change the design of the rear wing. McLaren also agreed to make modifications to reduce the flexibility of their rear wing.

McLaren's Boss Happy with distraction

Despite the controversy surrounding its front and rear wing design McLaren Team boss Andera Stella is very happy about it. He thinks it's good that rival teams are very distracted with McLaren cars and are complaining about their car forgetting their own.

He said “I find that so much attention on our rear wing is just good news because it means that opponents are not focusing on themselves. Formula 1 is such a marginal game. It's so complicated. I keep repeating to my team.: ‘Focus on yourself’.

They are using this time and energy to chase something that I think is a red herring. So for me, as McLaren, that's just good news. If others want to get destructive, keep doing that.” McLaren still says their rear wing design is completely legal. But they agree with FIA to make changes because they don't want this controversy to be blown up.

Red Bull and Ferrari raised the issue with FIA over McLarens controversial Mini DRS issue. McLaren will tussle with Red Bull at today's Singapore Grand Prix as it will look to increase the lead it got with the constructor's title points from Red Bull.
