Mercedes driver and 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has accused FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem of racism after he compared Formula One drivers swearing over the radio with rappers. Ben Sulayem the head of FIA has said F1 needs to differentiate between our sports - Motorsport and rap music. The FIA leader has asked the Formula 1 drivers to avoid swearing over the radio as children could watch the races along with their parents.

Sulayem says with technology everything is live and recorded. He wants to minimize swearing in races so that children don't get affected when watching the race. He said “We are not rappers, you know. They say the F word how many times per minute? We are not that. That's Them and we are us.” This Triggered Lewis Hamilton as he accused the FIA president's Comments of being racial.

'That's them and we are us' is racial

Hamilton Says “Saying rappers is very stereotypical. If you think about it Most rappers are black. So when it says ‘We are not like them’, Those are the wrong choice of words. There is a racial element there.” He also said he understood the point the FIA president trying to make but he made wrong choice of words as it could hurt some others. Not only Hamilton many F1 drivers gave their views on FIA president's remarks.

World champion Max Verstappen says “Dirty language is also used in other sports by athletes but they are not recorded or picked. Banning drivers for using the F-word doesn't change anything”. Lando Norris Said, “They can just not play the radios, so its quite simple on their side, we are the guys in the heat of the moment under stress, under pressure, fighting, having big crashes, it's just a lot easier for them to say than for us to do.”

Swear words on team radios are always muted or beeped during TV broadcasts by F1. In the heat of the moment, drivers usually swear to others over the team radio. This Swearing over the radio has created a new issue for Formula 1 teams.
