The 2024 Formula 1 is more of a roller coaster as the current world champion Max Verstappen dominated the first half of the season but now struggles after McLaren improved their car and reduced the gap for the championship with some new updates.

Currently, Max Verstappen leads the championship battle and only McLaren's Lando Norris has a good chance to topple Max from winning his 4th Formula 1 title. The gap between Red Bull and McLaren in the constructor's world title is just Eight points.

The intra-team battle between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri has cost McLaren in Hungary and Italy where the drivers started racing each other and lost positions costing McLaren some valuable points in the 2024 championship.

Oscar agrees to back Norris after Monza debacle

Oscar Piastri has now agreed to back Lando to win the Formula 1 2024 championship following the Monza race Mclaren boss confirms in a recent interview. At the start of the Italian GP this year Piastri attacked Lando Norris at the second chicane on lap one which cost Lando so much that he dropped behind Charles Leclerc to third. Ferrari won the race with a one-stop strategy costing Mclaren a victory in Monza.

After the race Mclaren’s leadership group had a review meeting with Lando and Oscar. In conclusion, the Australian driver has agreed to back Norris to win the Formula 1 world title this year. Mclarens Team boss Andera Stella talked about having discussions with both of his drivers post-Monza race. He said “Even when I said to Oscar: ‘Would You be available to give up a  victory?’ He said: ‘Its painful, but if its the right thing to do now, i will do it’.”

He says “Mclaren now has three objectives after the Monza Race. First, We need to make sure that anything that happens on the track is not to the detriment of the team, Second objective is How do we win both championships?, Third one is Both drivers are committed to helping the team?.” The Boss said McLaren’s approach will be updated after Baku which will be held this weekend. The current Gap between Verstappen and Lando Norris is 62 points.
