The McLaren F1 team was reborn last year as they were the fastest team in Formula 1 by defeating Ferrari and clinching their constructors championship. But they lost the driver's title to Max Verstappen because they were late to the party. The Dutchman was the only one that looked unbeatable last year. Red Bull were already on their knees in the last five races where Ferrari overtook them and finished second. Max Verstappen is the only one who can save Red Bull and to defeat him, McLaren has to think differently.
The 2025 Formula 1 season will be more intense because all the big teams are strong and everyone wants to win the ultimate title. Max Verstappen will be heading to the 2025 season as the favourite driver to win the championship because of his pure racing talent. McLaren now has one big headache, which is to keep their two drivers away from each other. Last year, Lando Norris was given the main priority because of the ‘Papaya rule’ they made inside the team.
Oscar Piastri agreed to help Norris win the driver's championship because the British driver had the highest chance to topple Verstappen. But in 2025 everything will be fresh and Oscar will be free to fight for the driver's championship. McLaren will help both drivers fight for the title but at the same time, they need some more insights to defeat Verstappen. So they could probably join their engine supplier Mercedes and get some help.

Strategy to defeat Max Verstappen
McLaren can seek the help of Mercedes reserve driver Valtteri Bottas to get more insights about winning against Verstappen. The Finnish driver was with the Mercedes team from the 2017 to 2021 season, in which Mercedes has won 5 constructors titles. Bottas also won 10 races with the team while being the teammate of Lewis Hamilton. The 35-year-old lost his place in the Sauber F1 team and joined Mercedes as a reserve driver. McLaren hasn't announced their reserve driver yet, and they could use Bottas for that job if necessary.
