Former Brazilian Formula 1 racer Ayrton Senna was phenomenal in his career. The three-time World Champion was one of those South Americans who has ruled the F1 grid. However, he lost his life in a tragic accident during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
On 1st May 2024, the world will mark Senna's 30th death anniversary. However, ahead of that, there is good news for Senna's fans as they can buy one of his favourite cars. Senna’s iconic red Honda NXS will be up for a grab in a sale.
The 1991 model car was gifted by Honda to Senna in 1991, which has been one of his most valuable collections to date. Senna used this car often and was clicked with it in his house in Portugal. The current British owner of the iconic car, Robert McKagan has put it on sale via a listing on Auto Trader.
What are the specifications?
The car was first put on the road in 1991 and has been driven 39,100 miles or 62,925 kilometres since then. It has a powerful six-cylinder three-litre engine that produces 271 horsepower. It can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds and has a top speed of 165 miles per hour.
Notably, Senna's Honda was last seen at Imola in 2019 when Giancarlo Minardi, the founder of the Minardi F1 team and manager of the circuit, drove it on the track. The current owner bought this car in 2013 during his vacation in Portugal.
Speaking about it he said, "I first bought the car in 2013 during a trip to the Algarve in Portugal and have owned it ever since where it has sat proudly at my estate in East Sussex.”
"Senna’s red NSX was given to him by Honda, whom he had a commercial partnership with, and Senna frequently used and was photographed with the car during his stays in Portugal. Being a huge Senna fan myself, I was delighted when I was able to get my hands on the NSX.”
“It was crafted to perfection and features a sleek and powerful machine to give an incredible experience on the road. It’s been a real pleasure owning what is one of the most famous cars belonging to a true sporting legend and the thrill of driving Senna’s car never goes away”, he concluded.
