McLaren driver and title contender Lando Norris has now admitted the mistake he made in the Formula 1 2024 season before the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The British driver admitted that he didn't start the year at the same level as Max Verstappen. There is still a mathematical possibility for Lando Norris to win the Championship against Max Verstappen. The three-time world champion is very well ahead of the British driver with 62 points lead. With still three races remaining this season it is very hard for the 25-year-old to pass Verstappen and win the title.
Since, the Miami Grand Prix this year, the MCL28 has been the fastest car on the grid after it received many updates. Lando Norris met the press before the Las Vegas GP weekend. He feels there is a clear performance difference in the first half and second half of the season. He said, “I think it’s the first time in the last six years of Formula 1 when we’ve had a chance to fight at the front. We’ve not been able to do that for the last six years. So this is our first opportunity to do so, and my first opportunity to see where I stand.”

Lando Norris's big mistake this year
The McLaren driver also feels he started the season very slow and that was the reason he is behind Max Verstappen in championship points now. Lando said, “Since the summer break, I feel like I’ve done a very good job and performed very, very well. By far, some of the best performances that I’ve done. So, I’ve been very happy, actually, with how the last few months have gone, honestly. I wouldn’t change many things that have happened. But I still need to make tweaks. I still need to improve on things. That’s clear. You know, I’m not completely satisfied with how I’ve done. I definitely know I need to make improvements.”
Like the McLaren F1 team, Ferrari also rebounded from all their setbacks and came back to winning ways in the United States and Mexico. But Max Verstappen was way ahead of them as he scored more points consistently, even though he did not win races due to a slower car than his rivals which has some floor issues. McLaren has a clear edge against Red Bull in the constructors championship. Ferrari and McLaren are now the prime contenders for the constructors title.
