With the End of the Japanese Grand Prix, the talk about the driver’s market has taken centre stage. After the race drivers like Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz have spoken about their prospects. However, Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso is yet to decide whether he wants to continue in F1 or not.

Alonso is the only World Champion driver who is a free agent for the F1 2025 season. Despite being on the hotlist of many teams Alonso has failed to search his soul and take a decision. Earlier this year he had revealed that he would like to take time and decide whether he wants to commit his life to F1 again.

After finishing sixth in the recently concluded Japan GP at Suzuka Alonso spoke about the team he will talk first for contract if he decides to stay in F1. While speaking with Sky Sports F1 Aston Martin's driver revealed that his current team will be his priority.

Also shutting down all the ongoing rumors about his potential move to Mercedes he said, “That’s a very good question. But yeah, Mercedes is behind now, so it doesn’t feel that attractive!” He said this after beating both Mercedes drivers to finish sixth at Suzuka.

“It doesn’t feel attractive”, says Fernando Alonso

Further speaking about his introspection and his decision to stay or not in F1 Fernando Alonso said that the tournament is not attractive anymore. He said, “I had a lot of fun, which is great to keep on racing. I had one of my best weekends ever in driving, [but] I am 44 seconds behind the leader, so it doesn’t feel that attractive at the same time, so let’s see.”

Notably, a few weeks ago Mercedes chief Toto Wolff revealed that Alonso will be on their cards to take the seat to replace Lewis Hamilton in the squad. He had named Alonso along with Carlos Sainz, Max Verstappen and the team’s own junior Kimi Antonelli as prospects worth considering.
