There is no doubt that Novak Djokovic is currently the greatest-ever tennis player. The Serbian powerhouse has been breaking records at the drop of a hat in the last couple of seasons as well. Not only does Djokovic have the most singles titles for any player, he is the oldest world number 1 and has been in that position for 420 weeks. He has been dominating the game in the modern era with his aggressive baseline game to cover both sides of the court.

Even though Djokovic has had a bit of a rough start to the season according to the high standards he has set, the start of 2024 has not been the best of years for the 36-year-old legend. Djoko failed to make it past the semis in the Australian Open and crashed out in the 3rd round of the Indian Wells masters. He is now set to play his first game against Roman Safiullin in Monte Carlo. This will be an opportunity for Djokovic to win his 3rd Monte Carlo title as well.

Leconte gives his opinion on Djoko’s dominance

Former world number 5 and 1984 grand slam champion Henri Leconte also had some thoughts on whether Novak Djokovic will continue his dominance in the tennis world even today. Le Conte has made some big remarks on Djokovic taking the young and upcoming world beaters Jannick Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in the mix saying “ The ‘Next Gen’ has dominated since last year, but they must prove that they can remain at the highest level, Sinner wins and confirms with his exceptional start to the season. There’s still Novak, but he’s older and he’s slower. He lost a little liveliness.”

These remarks from the Frenchman might be slightly harsh, but there is some reality in them as well. There is still a chance that Djokovic might prove them wrong and go on to retire as the top dog as well. However, looking at the talent coming up, he does have his work cut out for him in the future. Djokovic has achieved everything a great tennis player should achieve, the only question on people’s minds is whether he is hungry for more titles right now.
