In February 2024 things were going smooth when Lewis Hamilton announced his transfer to Ferrari for F1 season 2025. His decision came as a shock for many as just months ago he had signed a two-year contract with Mercedes. However, since the announcement Hamilton faces the challenge of managing himself in Mercedes with the team looking to avoid the leak of any secrets.
Just after his announcement to change the boat Mercedes chief Toto Wolff acknowledged that the year 2024 might entail navigating through some "challenging situations" as the team endeavours to safeguard against Hamilton potentially divulging confidential information to his future employers.
After his struggling race in the Japan Grand Prix Hamilton has spoken about his move to Ferrari. The British F1 driver revealed that he is committed to making Mercedes champion in the ongoing season before moving to a new franchise. It’s worth noting that seven-time World Champion Hamilton won his last race in December 2021.
After finishing 9th at Suzuka he said, “Right now, I want to finish on a high. All my energy is going into that. Of course, I’m looking forward to the future, but we’re currently in a difficult situation – and that’s my challenge.”
“I want to win”, says Lewis Hamilton ahead of Shanghai GP
Ahead of the Shanghai GP 2024, Hamilton admitted that he will be keen to win as he is a competitive guy. He said, “That’s where all my energy is going: to find out how we can get back to the top. How can I work with the boys? Can I give better debriefs? Can I give better direction? I’m a competitive guy first and foremost, so I want to win. Thinking about next year doesn’t help me with that.”
Notably, Lewis Hamilton is also facing a challenging issue in Mercedes as he is not sure whether he will be allowed to work with Ferrari before the 2024 season ends. Notably, in 2013 when he made his move to Mercedes from McLaren, he had to complete his season before joining the opposition camp.
While speaking about it he had said that he would speak to Toto Wolff as he doesn’t know how to convey these messages. “I don’t think I was at Mercedes until December [2012] when the first seat fitting was made after the season. I’m not sure how I’m going to do it this time.”
