Lando Norris has opened up about his friendship with the reigning world champion Max Verstappen. He was asked whether his title fight on the track had disrupted his friendship with the Dutchman off the track. Verstappen and Norris are constantly battling with each other for the championship title this year. Verstappen has a clear edge over Norris, but the last few races have been very tough for the Red Bull driver. Apart from Brazil, every other race was dominated by Lando Norris.
Is the friendship still on?
McLaren already surpassed Red Bull in the constructors title and the Austrian team is still struggling to find pace against the McLarens. Norris and Verstappen were very good friends in the past and the British driver was asked about his current relationship with the Dutchman.
He was also asked whether the person driving the car and the person outside the car were the same or different for him. He said “I don't know, I'm split. In some ways, you kind of think how someone can be personally and how can get along with people can be so different to how you are on track.”
Norris says the world is very different when seen on the track and off the track in the paddock. He also claims it is his first time being in these kinds of situations of fighting for the title against Max Verstappen and he still respects him for what he has achieved in Formula 1.

During the Mexican Grand prix, the fight between Verstappen and Norris reached a boiling point as Norris complained that Verstappen always pushed him off the track with his aggressive driving style which got him a 10-second penalty. The Red Bull driver was also criticized by many fans and F1 pundits complaining about his driving style.
Norris wanted to put more pressure on the Red Bull team so they would make more mistakes in the race which would help McLaren. He said “Max is under pressure, Red Bull’s under pressure, they’re not delivering. We as a team have overtaken them, Ferrari have overtaken them.” He added, “They're doing their best, were doing our best and the, more pressure we can put them under the more of these kinds of mistakes they'll probably make.”
