The 2025 Formula 1 season is going to be a very big year for the Aston Martin F1 team as they will be joined by celebrated race car designer Adrian Newey. After having a 2 decade-long partnership with Red Bull Racing he split with the Austrian squad and moved to Silverstone based team as a managing technical partner. The Legendary car designer will be working on the 2026 Aston Martin car design and chassis.
Talking about the car design usually, the designers often clash with the engine department as their hard work needs to be compromised to fit the engine inside the car. From 2026 Aston Martin will be having a new engine partner Honda which already worked with the legendary designer. Currently, Mercedes is the engine supplier for the Silverstone-based team.
2026 Engine regulations will be fully sustainable fuel and increased battery power. So the designers need to keep some space for both the Engine and a bigger battery. Honda is having a successful stint with the Red Bull team. Since their partnership started in 2019, they won back-to-back drivers and constructors titles. After 2021 they are now playing as a technical partner for the Red Bull team. The Austrian squad will also have a new engine partner Ford from the 2026 Season.

We’re very encouraged that they have solidified their management structure, including Newey’s involvement. I've worked with Newey before, and he has an incredible passion for building fast cars. While we build the PU they will build their car's chassis. We’re prepared for some conflicts. Of course, it's not just with Newey.”
He also said there were many times when they had clashed with each other but somehow they managed to create the best car in the world. Watanabe also expects the same here at Aston Martin and he believes Newey will lead them and make Aston Martin the best team in the world.
