George Russell birthday special: Top achievements of Mercedes Driver

George Russell turned 27 on the 15th of February 2025. The Formula 1 driver has been a part of two of the major teams Williams Racing and Mercedes. In his career, the British driver has achieved a lot so far. Russell has three major Grand Prix wins, five pole positions, 15 podium finishes, and eight fastest laps to his name.

Russell initially started as a Kart racer and signed with Williams in 2019. From then, his career took a massive turn as he got a chance to drive major cars. George made his debut at the Australian Grand Prix in 2019. At the Sakhir Grand Prix 2020, he got a chance to replace Lewis Hamilton.

While he performed well, Russell's win was denied due to a team error and a puncture. At the Belgian Grand Prix 2021, Russell claimed his maiden podium finish. In 2022, he joined Mercedes and there has been no looking back since then. George was great as a backup driver of Mercedes in 2022.

His win in Hungary was Mercedes' only pole position win in 2022. The following year was not great for both Russell and Mercedes. But 2024 was better as the British driver managed to claim two pole position wins. Russell won the Las Vegas and the Austrian Grand Prix and finished 6th in the world rankings.

In his career for Williams and Mercedes, Russell has a total of 3 major Grand Prix wins, five pole positions, 15 podium finishes, and eight fastest laps. He has proven himself to be one of the best drivers in the world, especially during his tenure with Mercedes since 2022. He will be his team's main driver since Hamilton's exit.
