The 2025 Formula 1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix qualifying ended after a number of crashes and red flags. The old-school circuit didn’t care about the drivers, as it demanded more from them in terms of skills and driving technique. In the end, Oscar Piastri emerged as the best driver, followed by Max Verstappen and George Russell. Lando Norris made a big mistake in the end and will start P4.

Q1 – The session started with a big crash of Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda. The crash was so big that it brought the red flag. He got stuck with the kerb, and he rolled over the fence and was again put back. The session again restarted with Max Verstappen setting the fastest lap time.
Tragedy struck again as Franco Colapintio crashed late, ending the session once and for all. The Imola circuit is proving to be driver-demanding, and even a slight margin ends their day. Liam Lawson was unlucky, as his lap time was deleted as the session was red-flagged.
Drivers eliminated: Yuki Tsunoda, Esteban Ocon, Nico Hülkenberg, Liam Lawson, Oliver Bearman
Q2 – The drivers started the session cautiously, as even a smaller margin of corrections can end the session. The biggest heartbreak was for the home fans as all the Italians got eliminated from the session. The two Ferraris who struggled throughout the weekend couldn’t make it and were out of Q2.
Home hero Kimi Antonelli gave his very best, but it wasn't enough for a place in Q1. The Italian fans couldn't believe that their favourite drivers and team were out of the main qualifying. The biggest surprise was Aston Martin drivers Alonso and Stroll moving to Q1 with medium tyres and Carlos Sainz setting the fastest lap time for the Williams.
Drivers to be eliminated: Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Antonelli, Gabriel Bortoleto and Franco Colapinto
Q3 – The final F1 qualifying session of the qualifying started, and the two against one battle continued between Max Verstappen and the two McLaren drivers. Red Bull driver Max Verstappen gave all his heart and set the fastest lap time, beating both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. In the final run, every driver used the strangest C6 Soft tyres, which Pirelli says are the softest ever tyres from the brand. Strangely, Max Verstappen waited for all the other drivers to exit the pit lane, and he started very late.
The final few minutes were a thriller as Max Verstappen, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris were split with the tiniest of margins. But the Australian Oscar Piastri was cool as a cucumber and won the pole position at the Imola circuit. Lando Norris made a huge mistake in the final sector and finished in P4. Max Verstappen will start in P3 ahead of Mercedes driver George Russell.
