F1 2025 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix FP2 Results: McLaren duo keeps the table unturned, Pierre Gasly surprises
The McLarens are again unstoppable, with Oscar Piastri leading the table and Lando Norris finishing in P2. Pierre Gasly stormed to the top of the table with P3.
McLaren domination continues in Formula 1 as Oscar Piastri once again triumphed against his teammate and set the fastest lap time in Imola GP. The McLaren duo finished 1-2 at the end of the Free practice session 2. The biggest surprise was Alpine driver Pierre Gasly showing outstanding pace throughout the practice session.
As soon as the session started, reigning world champion Max Verstappen immediately set the fastest lap. But it was taken away by his rival, Lando Norris, who edged it with a faster car than the Red Bull. The circuit is tighter, and the balance of the car plays a significant role.
Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton struggled with his brakes and the traffic as he went for an outlap. Even his teammate Charles Leclerc complained about the brakes, calling them horrendous. Red Bull's Yuki Tsunoda showed some promise for his team as he was only tenths of a second slower than Vertsappen.
In the final 30 minutes of the session, Piastri thumped Norris with the fastest lap time. The Imola track demands more from the drivers and the car, and the McLaren team is showing the rest of the grid with the best drivers and the package. They are miles ahead of all the teams, making us think, is there still a battle for the title?
Alpine driver Pierre Gasly came as the biggest surprise in the session as he pushed all the top teams behind him and clinched P3. Russell, as usual, was very consistent with his pace and finished in P4. The heartbreak was for the home hero Kimi Antonelli, who didn't have the pace in his home race and was also frustrated with the traffic. Kimi finished outside the top 15.
This was a practice session, so teams won't be showing the complete power. We will see the real and raw pace from teams during qualifying and the main race. So tomorrow will be a big day for all teams, and let's see whether Emilia Romagna GP will be a memorable one this season.
