The American auto giant General Motors has officially announced that they will enter Formula 1 in 2026. They are entering with their Cadillac brand at the pinnacle of Motorsport and will join hands with Ferrari for Power units. Cadillac F1 has now called on Charles Leclerc’s ex-teammate to test their simulators in the UK. It's not Sebastian Vettel or Carlos Sainz; it's Marcus Ericsson, Leclerc’s Sauber F1 teammate. The Swedish driver won the 2022 Indy 500 and is part of the Andretti Global Indycar team.

Marcus Ericsson raced for the Sauber F1 team from 2015 to 2019. He was replaced by Antonio Govinazzi in the mid-2019 season and signed off from Formula 1. He then joined the Indy Cup and even won the 2022 Indianapolis 500 race. In 2024, he signed a new deal with Andretti Autosport and is part of their team.

Cadillac F1 Simulators

Andretti and Cadillac F1 will enter Formula 1 in 2026, and before that, they need an experienced driver to test their simulators. They have now chosen Marcus as the testing driver, and he himself announced the news in a podcast recently. Ericsson said, “My employer, Andretti, has asked me to fly to England to test different simulators. I will provide feedback so they can choose the right model for the whole organisation, including Formula 1, IndyCar, and Sports cars.”

The Swedish driver's previous experience in Formula 1 will be seen as an advantage to tell which simulator is closest to the real experience. He added, “Simulators have become an integral part of motorsport, and I’ve been working on improving my own use over the winter. It's great that they want to use me and my experience to help.”

Cadillac F1 will be the 11th team entering Formula 1 after many years and will have two vacant driver seats. In 2026, we could see many drivers shifting teams, as it will be the beginning of a new era and cars will be very different in design and engineering compared with the current generation.
