Alpine has one of the slowest cars in the Formula 1 grid in the ongoing season. They have yet to open their account on the constructor’s points table. However, to address all the issues and improve their performances Alpine has appointed David Sanchez to the newly created role of Executive Technical Director.
He'll be in charge of the technical stuff there, like making sure the cars perform well, engineering, and aerodynamics. He's starting right away. Before this, he was with McLaren for three months, but they decided to part ways because his job didn't match what they talked about before.
Notably, David Sanchez left McLaren just a few weeks ago and his decision to join a comparatively ‘slow’ team shocked many. Now, at Alpine, Sanchez will lead a new team with Ciaron Pilbeam focusing on performance, Joe Burnell on engineering, and David Wheater on aerodynamics. Alpine are not doing so well in the 2024 F1 season; they're currently ninth in the championship with zero points after five races.
“I am excited about the new role”, says David Sanchez
After receiving the new job at Alpine David Sanchez said that he is very much excited for the new role. He said, “I’m excited by this challenge at Alpine. I’m looking forward to working at Enstone again, the place where I started my Formula 1 career.”
“This team has always had so many fantastic people involved and there is so much potential to unlock. We have a big task ahead to improve on-track performance and it is this type of challenge that motivates me.
“I’m very much ready to begin and look forward to working with the Enstone-Viry technical teams again with the sole aim of bringing regular success back to this great team”, he concluded. It’s worth noting that Alpine is constantly struggling on the track and will be keen to get some help from David Sanchez.
