George Russell was all praises for McLaren after Lando Norris' recent win in the Miami Grand Prix. The driver from the Mercedes claimed how McLaren was nearly nowhere in the list of top teams in the GP and emerged to be one of the best teams in recent times. Russell touched upon the fact that McLaren made quick strides to improve before winning for the first time since 2021.

the last win for McLaren was in the Italian Grand Prix in 2021. The win of Lando Norris is the first major win for McLaren in the last 3years. Russell felt that the massive improvement in the team was an indication of what could happen if things were done in the right way. Russell was sad to accept that things have been not right in Mercedes in the last few months.

McLaren qualified P17 and P18 12 months ago in Miami, and [on Sunday] they won. So it shows what's possible when they get things right. But right now we don't have things right," said Russell after the race. When asked about the things going wrong for Mercedes, Russell was not sure. He claimed that on good days they finish P5 and on bad days they finish P8.

'We have to accept that we are the fourth-fastest team at the moment' - George Russell

"I don't really know, to be honest. You know, on a good day we're P5. On a bad day, we're P8 and today [Sunday] was a bad day, and we finished P8," added Russell in his statement. The best result of Mercedes of late was the win in the Brazilian GP in 2022. George himself was responsible for the major win of Mercedes. Since then, the curve of the team has been downward.

George concluded by saying that the team must accept the reality and move on to show improvements. "I think we have to accept that we are the fourth-fastest team at the moment. The lap times don't lie. And the championship doesn't lie. This is where we are," Russell concluded in the interview.
