Indian vice-captain Shubman Gill continued his poor form with bat as he was out for just six runs. The young Indian opener was bowled by Asitha Fernando when he tried to give the Sri Lankan bowler the charge. Shubman Gill saw his leg stump get disturbed as the home fans cheered with delight.

Asitha Fernando pulled out the best celebration of the game when he decided to celebrate in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) style. The right-arm pacer did the famous chop sign of D-Generation X which many fans still remember.

It could be seen that Asitha Fernando was pumped up as he came up with the celebration. If Sri Lanka win this game they will not only win the series 2-0 but also beat India in a bilateral ODI series for over 25 years.

Poor show with the bat continues for Shubman Gill

Before the third ODI, Shubman Gill had only scored 51 runs with the bat from the first two games. The six runs scored on Wednesday means that the Indian vice-captain has scored a total of 57 runs from the three games with an average of 19 runs.

This will worry a lot of Indian fans as Gill was the best batter for India in 2023 in the ODI format with over 1000 runs. Rohit Sharma on the other hand was at his best form yet again with the bat as he smashed Maheesh Theekshana for 18 runs in a single over.

Dunith Wellage then struck when he dismissed the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma as he went for a wild swing. Kusal Mendis took a smart catch to give a huge jolt to the Indian fans as Rohit Sharma was out after scoring 35 runs from 20 balls.

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka scored 248 on the board and the best batter for the home team was Avishka Fernando. The right-handed batter scored 96 runs and was unlucky to miss his ton as he fell to Riyan Parag. Kusal Mendis batted well as he showed great grit to score 59 runs and help Sri Lanka post the highest total of the series.
