In a thrilling finale to the T20 World Cup 2024, India secured a memorable victory against South Africa, winning by 7 runs. It also ended an 11-year drought for an ICC trophy. The celebratory atmosphere was electrified further by Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who paid a unique tribute to WWE legend Ric Flair. 

As Sharma approached the podium to collect the trophy, he mimicked Flair’s iconic strut, a move that delighted fans worldwide and brought a touch of wrestling nostalgia to the cricketing world. Ric Flair reacted enthusiastically to Sharma's homage. Flair, clearly moved by Sharma's tribute, took to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his delight. He tweeted, "Rohit Sharma taking a page out of my playbook! WOOOOO!"

Notably, Flair's signature strut is still beloved by WWE fans and was expertly replicated by the Indian skipper. It added a layer of entertainment to the historic victory. The moment was further amplified as BCCI Secretary Jay Shah handed over the trophy, making the occasion even more special.

How did India win the trophy?

India’s triumph was marked by a stunning comeback against South Africa, who were in a commanding position, needing just a run a ball to secure their maiden T20 World Cup title. However, the trio of Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh delivered under pressure, turning the tide in India’s favour and clinching their second T20 World Cup title.

In recognition of the team's outstanding performance, the BCCI announced a substantial prize money of 125 crores for the Indian team. This amount significantly surpasses the prize money awarded by the ICC for the tournament.
