Team India finally ended their 17-year-long wait for a trophy in the T20 World Cup after clinching the title in the just-concluded T20 World Cup 2024. It was the third appearance in a final of any ICC tournament in last year, including the ICC World Test Championship 2023 Final and ODI World Cup 2023 Final. However, the men in blue finally turned the tables in their favour and created history by becoming the first-ever team in history to win a T20 World Cup going unbeaten in the tournament.

In the same line of events, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has also announced a huge prize money for the World Champion Team India. Board secretary Jay Shah revealed the massive 125 crore prize money in an official statement.

Here’s what BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in his statement

“Under the exceptional leadership of Rohit Sharma, this team has shown remarkable resolve and resilience, becoming the first team in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup to win the tournament unbeaten,” said Rohit Sharma.

“They have faced and silenced their critics with stellar performances time and again. Their journey has been nothing short of inspirational, and today, they join the ranks of the greats, achieving something truly special that brings immense pride and joy to all Indians,” he added later.

Furthermore, Jay Shah also emphasized the immense contribution of skipper Rohit Sharma, alongside the modern-day batting great Virat Kohli.

“It fills me with great pride to speak about such an extraordinary team. However, it is this team that has made us all proud with their dedication, hard work, and unyielding spirit. Led by Rohit Sharma, and ably assisted by Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and others they have fulfilled the dreams and aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians,” said Jay Shah.
