The LA crowd responded quite well to CM Punk, who came out second.  When the bout started, the two men had a back-and-forth battle. When CM Punk caught Seth Rollins with his defenses down, he was able to change the tide for himself. Both contestants were injured when the Second City Savior executed a flying neckbreaker from the top rope. Seth Rollins and CM Punk chants caused a rift among the fans. The fact that this was Punk's first match on RAW in about 11 years further added to its significance. After catching it from the top rope, Seth Rollins turned CM Punk's crossbody block into a GTS during this bout.

CM Punk hit Rollins with a Stomp when they got back in the ring, but Rollins kicked out of a pinning attempt. As they went on, chants of "CM Punk" erupted across the building. Punk kicked out at two when Rollins blocked a GTS before he hit another one of his own. Punk rolled out of the ring, avoiding a stomp. After they were at the announcer's table, Rollins hit a Pedigree to it, but he injured his knee doing it.
