Triple H claims John Cena wanted to face Brock Lesnar in his farewell tour

Triple H reacted to Brock Lesnar's return on Night 2 of WWE SummerSlam 2025. In the SummerSlam 2025 Post-show, Hunter claimed that John Cena wanted to face the Beast Incarnate in his Farewell Tour one last time. The WWE CCO said he was ready to book Cena's Retirement Tour the way he wanted.

Hunter touched upon the fact that Cena had a limited number of dates in his farewell tour. He felt the need to cover as many big matches, moments, and incredible things as possible in the limited time frame. Triple H added that it was Cena's wishlist and claimed he was just writing what the 17-time world champion wished to accomplish.

"You know you have a finite number of dates with John Cena. You have a finite number of big matches and big moments, and incredible things you wanna do. And you wanna get to the majority of them. You can’t get to everything, but as I said in the beginning, sort of for me, this is John Cena’s wishlist. It’s him writing the last chapter of his book," said Triple H in the SummerSlam 2025 Post-show talk.

He further added that before the start of Cena's retirement tour, there were talks from both sides about the booking. Hunter said he gave Cena the creative freedom to pick his opponents and promised to work out what they could do about it.

"It’s about John being able to go out the way that he wants to, to write his chapter. One of the very first things I said to him was, 'Who do you want? Who do you want and how?' And we’re working through that," Triple H added.
