JBL gave a reference to Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela in one of the past promos on WWE Smackdown with Dirty Dom. On Smackdown, JBL claimed people who were in jail went on to become great leaders. He referred to personalities like Gandhi and Mandela as someone who went to jail and became famous and felt Dom was on the way to becoming a great leader.
Back when Dominik Mysterio was the NXT North American Champion and was with the old Judgement Day, he was set to face LWO's Dragon Lee. On the blue brand, Santos Escobar and Dragon Lee were having a match with each other. It was a qualifying match for a shot at the United States Championship.
Dom and the rest of the members of the Judgement Day interfered and were booed by the fans. JBL then addressed Dom. He felt there was a hidden dare in the star wrestler that made him challenge some of the best in the company. He felt his qualities matched with some top personalities in the world.
Fans disagree with JBL
JBL sarcastically tried to take a dig at Dirty Dom. He said the son of Rey Mysterio was similar to Gandhi and Mandela giving context to them going to jail. He said Dom could go on to become a great leader like them.
Ahead of WrestleMania 39, Dom was arrested and put into jail for his misbehavior with dad Rey. He was escorted into the stadium for the PLE by the police. However, the comparison of Dirty Dom with Gandhi and Mandela did not sit well with the people who knew and read about them.
Many felt it was not the right way to compare as they claimed the great leaders went to jail for fighting for a purpose. They said Dom was arrested for his bad deeds. Many users felt the comparison from JBL did not come naturally. On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanthi, the past segment has gone viral on X.
