Swerve Strickland will defend his valued AEW World Championship against Roderick Strong at AEW Dynamite on June 5th. This clash was established during the most recent edition of AEW Collision on June 1st, when Strong declared himself the ultimate contender in the Casino Gauntlet on Dynamite. Strong proposed to Tony Khan that he face Swerve for the championship, and Khan quickly granted him the opportunity.

This was his second defence. The third time Swerve Strickland will defend his championship is this Wednesday on "AEW Dynamite," when he faces Roderick Strong, a former International Champion and part of Undisputed Kingdom.

Ospreay beat Strong at Double or Nothing last weekend, winning the International Championship for the first time. On Dynamite, he won a Casino Gauntlet match, earning him the opportunity to meet the AEW World Champion at Forbidden Door on June 30.

Will Ospreay emerged victorious from the Casino Gauntlet on Dynamite, positioning him to contend for the AEW World Title at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. Ospreay won the AEW International Title after defeating Strong at AEW Double or Nothing.

Tony Khan agreed to arrange a world championship battle

On Saturday's broadcast of "Collision," the match was set when Strong emerged victorious against rookie outsider Lio Rush in the program's initial battle. After winning, Strong was spotted by cameras backstage with The Kingdom and ran into AEW CEO Tony Khan and new Interim EVP Christopher Daniels.

Strong grumbled to Khan about losing out on the Casino Gauntlet battle to select Strickland's next opponent on "Dynamite," then used Khan's recent neck injury at the hands of the Young Bucks, claiming Khan was "Neck Strong."

Tony Khan agreed to arrange a world championship battle between Strong and Strickland on Wednesday, putting Strong ahead of Will Ospreay, who won the Casino Gauntlet and captured Strong's international belt at Double or Nothing. Ringside News will provide complete coverage of AEW Dynamite, beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
