Swerve Strickland claimed the biggest win of his career in AEW Dynasty 2024. He overcame the challenge of the mighty Samoa Jow who was the AEW Champion for 113 days. In the process, Strickland ended the title reign of Joe and scripted history with a unique achievement. He is the 11th world champion, the 8th unique champion, and the first African-American to win the title.

It took a daunting effort from Strickland to even have a go at the title against the former WWE Superstar. In the Continental Classic in December 2023, Swerve failed to claim a win. Blood rival Hangman Page posed him a threat in a 30-minute match which cemented his spot as a confident wrestler. He was up against Page and Samoa to be a contender for the world title.

Page played foul by not taking part in the triple threat match. It led to the match between Konosuke Takeshita and Strickland. After winning the match, Sweerve got a title run at Joe. Till the AEW Dynasty 2024, Joe had three successful title defences. He defeated MJF in December to win the title. The win for Strickland could lead to a change in dynamics in the roster in the days to come.

Ever impressive Strickland continues to impress

The main event of the AEW Dynasty 2024 turned out to be good. Both wrestlers showcased a brilliant display of the in-ring work. After the duo had a brawl last week ahead of the match, the feud had a higher intensity. The crowd was involved in the match and praised both after exciting moves. With the progression of the match, Swerve started to dominate the mighty athlete.

Joe initially hit a muscle buster outside the ring and followed it up with a muscle buster inside the ring. However, Strickland did not give up and stayed in the contest. He countered the moves of Joe with his presence of mind. Strickland hit a powerbomb and followed it up with an impressive second stomp to script history in the arena.
